Frances Bean Cobain isn't exactly a red-carpet regular, and I totally get it. If my parents were '90s music legends (hers are Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, if you're new to the planet), I'd probably lie low most of the time too. But she celebrated her own entertainment industry wins on Tuesday at a special screening of The Deputy, which she executive-produced. And Cobain wore a look, right down to her makeup, that suggests she's more than happy to be associated with the decade she was born in.
Everything about Cobain's outfit raspily screamed mid-'90s style, paying tribute to several trends of the time. The distressed, vintage Elvira tee and oversized brown leather jacket were spot-on grunge, the super-short lace shorts recalled the babydoll vibes of the time, and the white knee-high boots nailed the era's obsession with retro mod looks. Even her handmade orchid bag charm had piercings that felt true to the time.

And just like her clothes and accessories served as a subtle nod to the '90s, so did her beauty look. Her hair was styled simply—straight, shiny, and side-parted, left down to flow freely. Her makeup was both fresh-faced and warm, with a hint of glowy, not shimmery, bronze on her cheeks and lids, and a generous dose of mascara without any discernible liner.
But the pièce de résistance, as subtle as it may be, was her glossy lip. Nothing feels more ‘90s to the casual beauty historian than a brown-leaning lipstick with visibly darker liner. And while Cobain’s interpretation of the look was more homage than imitation, it still evoked that angsty moment in time.

Will we see Cobain on the red carpet more often moving forward? That's yet to be seen. But if so, she's clearly indicated that she's ready to deliver in the beauty-inspo department.
